Representações sociais sobre o mérito: um estudo com estudantes da Universidade Federal Rural do Semiárido do Rio Grande do Norte

O estudo analisa as representações sociais sobre o mérito dos estudantes graduandos do Curso de Administração da Universidade Federal Rural do Semiárido (Ufersa), em Mossoró, RN. O artigo discute, com base na teoria das representações sociais, o mérito, a educação e o sistema de cotas sociais e raciais, que foi implementado, de forma integral, na Ufersa em 2013.1. Foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas com discentes dos semestres 2013.1 e 2015.1, devidamente transcritas e analisadas por análise de conteúdo. Os resultados indicaram que o desempenho individual foi o cerne das representações sociais acerca do mérito e da educação entre os estudantes cotistas e não cotistas ingressantes em 2013.1 e 2015.1. Observou-se, ainda, a presença da responsabilidade individual como base para rejeição, por parte dos entrevistados, das cotas raciais. Pode-se concluir que o desempenho, a partir da ideia de mérito e da responsabilização individual, são os cernes das representações sociais dos estudantes
