Abstract

The article analyzes the relationship between disinformation, common sense, and scientific knowledge in the context of information technologies. The research focuses on the growing dissemination of false news and its impact on the perception of reality, influencing public opinion and delegitimizing scientific knowledge. The central issue revolves around how disinformation navigates between scientific knowledge and common sense, acquiring popular contours as it is widely disseminated without scientific criteria. The objective is to discuss how disinformation can be characterized as the new common sense of the 21st century and how it contributes to the delegitimization of scientific knowledge in cyberspace. The adopted methodology is qualitative, using the hypothetical-deductive method, with an exploratory and explanatory approach. The central hypothesis considers that disinformation assumes a role similar to that of common sense, shaping perceptions without scientific grounding. In conclusion, although common sense can serve as a starting point for science, its dissemination without rigorous criteria can lead to the perpetuation of unfounded beliefs. Thus, the need for a critical and balanced perspective between common sense and scientific knowledge is reinforced.
